December 7th Typhula fistulosa (Pipe Club) At Ragpits Reserve nr Wendover Phil Townsend noticed these strange-looking though not uncommon fungi growing 'en masse' in a wooded area. Simultaneously Mick Jones sent in photo 3 from Dancersend (not far away as the Kite flies) with the comments that there was 'an extensive scattering' amongst the Beech litter - more than he'd ever seen there before. Clearly conditions must be perfect just now, so this is one to look out for (though you do need to have your eyes peeled because it's easy to overlook amongst the litter despite its size and shape).
